"LOCAL GOVERNMENTS FOR EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES" Project and Award Ceremony

Background: On the basis of the experiences of the two successful nationwide Conferences „Women in Regional Development and Public Life" held in June 2004 and „Mayors for Equal Opportunities" held in June 2005, the Association for Women's Career Development in Hungary (AWCDH) launched a new Project "Local Governments for Equals Opportunities" for the 15th Anniversary of the establishment of local governments in Hungary.
The new Project is an innovative initiative not only in Hungary but also on a European Union level.
The Grant for „Local Governments for Equal Opportunities" Prize contributes to bringing forward the innovative initiatives and recognising them.
37 applications in three categories, equal opportunities for women, minorities and the people with disabilities were evaluated by Expert Committees.
Objective: To draw attention to the extraordinary role of local governments in the fields of equal opportunities. To bring forward the implemented and successfully operating programmes contributing to the provision of equal opportunities by the co-operation of local and regional communities.

Result: The Prizes awarded in three different categories plus the Special Prizes granted by the Minister of the Interior and the Chairwoman of Association of Local Governments - Section of Women Mayors give motivation and highlight the good practices that can be implemented by other local governments as well.
The local governments awarded are entitled to use the emblem and the title "Local Governments for Equal Opportunities 2005" to direct the attention towards the issue of equal opportunities and to demonstrate their exemplary role.
